  • This week on The Core Report: Weekend Edition, financial journalist Govindraj Ethiraj talks to Naveen Ahlawat, the Head of Power to X; Green Hydrogen, Green Steel, Gasification Projects, and CCSU at Jindal Steel & Power Ltd.

    Naveen Ahlawat oversees the gasification projects, Green Hydrogen initiatives, and the CCSU vertical within the organization. His vision focuses on advancing steel production through Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) and Coal Gasification with Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCSU). Under his leadership, the company operates the world’s first coal gasification-based DRI plant in Angul, Odisha.

    Additionally, they are exploring various downstream chemicals derived from synthesis gas. Notably, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. is the only steel manufacturing company globally capturing 2000 TPD of CO2 at their Angul plant.

    They are investigating multiple options to utilize and monetize the captured CO2 into downstream chemicals such as methanol, ethanol, and acetic acid. Recognizing green hydrogen as the future, the company is actively working on using green hydrogen as a reduction gas to produce directly reduced iron.
